Fragile creatures

By Julien Perreault

Throughout the world, we are seeing an unacceptable, yet increasingly frequent, form of violence. It is called cruelty to animals. In recent years, the rate of cruelty to animals has risen significantly. In Bas-Saint-Laurent, for example, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) has noticed a 15% increase in reports of animal abuse.

In the name of science, animals are often mistreated by researchers: to test drugs or to conduct military experiments. However, several reputable scientists have said no to all these disgraceful practices. For example, former researcher Donald Barnes stated, "It's a horrible thing to watch an animal dying of radiation exposure, wasting away in agony, suffering from bloody diarrhea and vomiting. It's awful." So, why don't the others stop? How uncaring it is to harm poor defenceless creatures!

We are often called "highly evolved," but I think this is false. If we are so advanced, then why do we let all this harm happen to innocent creatures? Must we wait until the situation worsens until we can no longer stop it? I say no. Together, let's work to protect these fragile creatures that only ask to be in security. Together, we can change the future for these animals. So don't hesitate to contact organizations like the SPCA.
