Through words

by Andréanne Lauzon

For me, reading a book means hours of memories, mysteries, intrigue and prose. It's a journey that carries me further than I could ever imagine. Each word, each letter has its own place in a story. Without them, we'd get lost, forget the story and grow tired of it. When you open a book, look closely at all the ink marks stacked inside. There's a world in these characters, an entire universe. They will show you life through someone else's eyes. All these words that have been carefully placed will show you another life, with other people, in another era. If you are able to travel just by holding a few pages between your hands, you've finally understood. It's the miracle of words: they create emotions and images in our minds. You haven't learned to read until you've learned to see all the images, the world that words create. When you've learned to let yourself be completely drawn into these pictures in your mind, then you'll know how to read. Not before. Reading has to be a daily journey. You owe it to yourself to discover the aroma of foreign countries through the pages of books. There are dozens of characters who live, stacked like sardines, between these lines. You'll grow to love them or hate them by reading a few pages. You'll meet them, get to know them. You'll see them change, evolve, live. Reading a book is a huge journey that we must never miss.
