Power of attorney for environmental trusts

Several municipalities, enterprises and organizations in the private, public and parapublic sectors in Quebec operate residual or dry matter landfills they have to decontaminate. To obtain an operating certificate, the Ministère de l'Environnement requires them to pay to decontaminate their sites. To this end, they create environmental trusts.

Trustee's responsibilities

Desjardins Trust is responsible for managing and administering the money in environmental trusts for landfill operators.

This type of trust is generally created for a minimum 20-year period. The Ministère du Développement durable Environnement et Parcs has to approve any release of funds and supervise the decontamination operations.
