In case of emergency

  1. If you become ill or are injured while travelling outside your province of residence, you must contact the Assistance Service for approval before going to a healthcare facility. If you fail to call the Assistance Service in advance or you disregard their instructions, you will have to pay a portion of your expenses (30% of the first $10,000 of expenses incurred that would otherwise be eligible for reimbursement after any deductible had been applied). If you are unable to call, a person accompanying you must contact the Assistance Service on your behalf within 24 hours of the event.

  2. Make sure you have the following information handy:

    • your contract number
    • your departure and return dates
    • the name and phone number of your physician
    • the name of the person to contact in an emergency and his or her phone number
  3. The following information must be provided:

    • caller's information (name, phone number, etc.)
    • information about the sick or injured person (name, date of birth, permanent address, phone number, SIN, other travel insurance)
    • where the sick or injured person can be reached
    • information about the attending physician(s) abroad (name, phone number, etc.)
    • what medication the insured is currently taking
    • a summary of the circumstances under which the illness or injury occurred

In case of accident or illness outside your province of residence, contact the Assistance Service immediately.
