Développement international Desjardins and Young Musicians of the World

Lévis (Québec), le 13 octobre 2009 – Développement international Desjardins (DID) is proud to announce its involvement with Young Musicians of the World. DID President and CEO Anne Gaboury will act as honourary president for the organization's fund raising activities October 15 and 16 in Quebec City.

Having great respect for the creativity and commitment of Young Musicians of the World, Anne Gaboury was pleased to accept the honourary presidency for these financing activities. "This partnership with Young Musicians of the World is a natural one. DID and Young Musicians of the World share fundamental values: a belief in long-term development, sustainable activities, a local base for project management, a desire to preserve heritage and a humanistic approach."

Young Musicians of the World is a non-profit organization that works to develop the talents of disadvantaged young people through free musical education rooted in their traditions. Since its creation in 2002, Young Musicians of the World has set up four music schools located in Quebec City (Saint-Sauveur), Montreal (Hochelaga-Maisonneuve), Kitcisakik in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, and in India. At these schools young children and adolescents are able to express their full creative potential through music and develop confidence in themselves and their future.

While Young Musicians of the World accomplishes its mission through music, DID takes a different path, that of microfinance, towards the same goal of increased autonomy for individuals and communities. The experience acquired by DID over the past forty years is put to work to improve access to financial services for marginalized communities in over twenty developing and emerging countries.

The Quebec City benefits for Young Musicians of the World will be held at l'Impérial de Québec. On Thursday, October 15, there will be a dinner cocktail with musical performances and an auction. Friday, October 16, will feature a multi-artist concert including Antoine Gratton, Vincent Vallières, Les Trois Accords, Tricot Machine and Catherine Major. The public is invited to take part in these joyous fund raising activities. For complete details visit the Young Musicians of the World website at http://www.youngmusiciansoftheworld.org.
