Frequently asked questions about RSS feeds (FAQ)

Q. What is RSS?
A. RSS (Really Simple Syndication) sends newly updated information from a Web site out to RSS news aggregators (also known as "readers"). Using an RSS reader, you can keep up with all your favourite sites by subscribing to their RSS "feeds" (or sources of information). The latest news items from all these sites will be sent directly to your RSS reader.

On the Desjardins Web site, you can subscribe to RSS feeds to receive information about press releases, contests, what's new at Desjardins, exchange rates, mortgage rates, etc.

Q. How do I get RSS feeds from Desjardins?
A. Step 1: Sign up for an RSS news reader.

There are 3 main types of RSS readers:

  • Browser-based RSS readers are available directly in the latest versions of browsers such as Internet Explorer, Firefox and Safari.
  • Online RSS readers display all your subscribed feeds on a single Web site (e.g., Google Reader, Netvibes or Bloglines).
  • Desktop-based RSS readers are applications you can install on your computer (e.g., NetNewsWire for Mac or FeedDemon for Windows).

If you use a smartphone or PDA system, we suggest the AvantGo service.

Step 2: Choose the Desjardins RSS feed you want to receive

Throughout the Desjardins site, information that is available in RSS format is marked with an RSS icon ( ). Clicking the icon will take you to a page with a complete list of Desjardins RSS feeds.

  • Find the information you are interested in among the RSS feeds listed.
  • Click on the RSS button ( ) or the button corresponding to your RSS news reader next to the RSS feed to add it to your RSS reader. A new page will open in a pop-up window.
  • Follow the instructions for your news reader or, if you clicked on the RSS button ( ), copy the URL (Web address) from the address bar of the pop-up window. On the Desjardins site, this URL usually begins with "rss".
Step 3: Subscribe to the RSS feed in your RSS news reader
  • Go to your RSS reader. Find the link to add an RSS feed and paste the Desjardins URL into the appropriate field.
  • Once you have subscribed to the feed, the content you want to receive should appear in your RSS news reader. This content will be updated each time the Desjardins site publishes new information.
  • With your RSS news reader, you can receive all the RSS feeds you want in a single place, so you can easily view the news you care about from different Web sites, including Desjardins.com.
