Making the right choices in paper consumer products

Each year millions of hectares of forest are cut down all over the world chiefly to satisfy our need for paper. Not only are the forests felled sometimes virgin forests, but they represent invaluable ecosystems that have the capacity to capture green house gases released into the atmosphere. It is therefore essential that we change our paper consumption habits.

To do so, consumers have 2 easy options. The first option is choosing paper with a high percentage of recycled fibre content. The second one is replacing disposable paper products with more durable substitutes. For example, the simple fact of using a rag instead of paper towels saves large amounts of paper.

We all buy household paper products from time to time. When we do, choosing products made up of a high percentage of post-consumer recycled fibre is a positive step for the environment. The use of facial tissues, toilet paper and paper towels made with recycled fibre saves millions of trees. These products are now widely available in all stores. They are competitively priced and it is practically impossible to tell them apart from virgin fibre products.

You can also opt for recycled paper for your printer at home. This type of paper has a recycled fibre content ranging from 30 to 100%.
