Développement international Desjardins

Desjardins know-how and expertise have long been recognized throughout many regions of the world. Through one of its components, Développement international Desjardins (DID), the Group has been offering technical support and investment in the microfinance sector for developing and emerging countries since 1970. One of the world leaders in its field, DID provides support for the creation and development of sustainable financial institutions that are rooted in the community in some 25 countries of Africa, Latin America, the West Indies, Asia and Central and Eastern Europe.

The expertise of DID's 100 employees is particularly sought out to:

  • set up financial institutions and organize them into networks
  • develop and introduce new financial (savings, credit, insurance, etc.) products
  • develop financing for specialized sectors, such as housing, agriculture and small and medium-sized enterprises
  • turn around operations after crisis situations
  • introduce technological solutions and modernize operations
  • design supervision strategies and control procedures
  • support lawmakers in establishing legal frameworks designed to provide structure for the microfinance sector
  • design training (task coaching, off-site training, etc.) programs and organize training services within partner institutions

The technical support provided by DID to many microfinance institutions makes it possible to provide disadvantaged communities on the planet with the necessary means for self-organization so that they can meet their own needs.

That is what we call money serving people.
