Richard Fortier was appointed President and Chief Operating Officer of Desjardins Financial Security on September 1, 2006. He joined DSF in 1994 and, from 2000 to 2006, held the position of Senior Vice-President of Actuarial, Finance and Corporate Services.

Mr. Fortier has had an impressive career in the field of insurance, in which he has been active for over 30 years. He started out in 1973 as an actuarial clerk for Cooperants, Mutual Life Insurance Society. He quickly made his way up through the ranks, being appointed first Director (1975-1981), then Vice President and Actuary (1981-1982) and later Vice President, Actuarial Services and Development (1982-1986). In 1986, he was made Senior Vice President, Life and Health Insurance and Actuarial Services, and was finally appointed Vice President and General Manager of the Society the following year. He later used his extensive experience to benefit Royal Trust as senior partner and Vice President, Corporate Financial Services, before joining the Desjardins family in 1994.

Mr. Fortier graduated from Laval University in Actuarial Sciences, and is a CFA, MAAA and a Fellow (FSA and FCIA) of the Society of Actuaries and the Canadian Institute of Actuaries, in addition to belonging to several professional associations.
