Gérard Guilbault

President and Chief Operating Officer of Desjardins Asset Management

Gérard Guilbault is President and Chief Operating Officer of Desjardins Asset Management (DAM), a Desjardins Group subsidiary that manages more than $50 billion in assets and operates primarily in three investment sectors: securities investments and financial engineering, mortgage investments and institutional financing, and real estate investments.

Mr. Guilbault joined Desjardins Group at the end of the 1980s as Vice-President, Financial Markets for Trustco Desjardins, where he became Vice-President and Treasurer in 1993. In 1994, he was appointed Vice-President, Securities Investments at Desjardins-Laurentian Life Group, and in 1998, became Vice-President, Treasury and Securities Investments at Opvest, a Desjardins-Laurentian Financial Corporation subsidiary specializing in asset management. In 2002, he was promoted to Senior Vice-President and Chief Investment Officer for Desjardins-Laurentian Financial Corporation and its subsidiary Opvest, a position he held until his appointment as President and Chief Operating Officer of Desjardins Asset Management in May 2004.

Before joining Desjardins, Mr. Guilbault was a fixed income securities portfolio manager and then General Manager – Pension Fund Investments at Domtar. He began his career in various investment portfolio management positions at the Montreal transit corporation (STCUM) and La Sauvegarde, a life insurance company.

Mr. Guilbault is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and has a degree in finance and economics from Montreal's École des Hautes Études Commerciales. He has also completed the Executive Business Program at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario.

In addition to being a member of the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts, Gérard Guilbault sits on the investment committees of the Fonds des professionnels inc., Hydro-Québec and the Fondation Lucie et André Chagnon.
