Bursaries for staff at the Desjardins Group

Girardin-Vaillancourt Program

Application period: December 15 to April 1 of each year.

The Fondation Desjardins awards 5 training bursaries to employees of the Desjardins Group.

  • Three $2,500 bursaries for students at the bachelor's level
  • Two $3,500 bursaries for students at the master's or doctorate level in a recognized university

Winners of one of these bursaries may accept other bursaries for their studies but may receive only one bursary from the Fondation during a single school year.

Upon accepting the Fondation’s bursary, i.e. at the fall session following the application, the winner must prove full-time or part-time enrolment in a university program.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • be Canadian citizens or have permanent resident status
  • be employed by Desjardins for at least 2 years, where one year was spent working for the same subsidiary;
  • be permanent full-time or part-time employees; temporary employees who have previously held a permanent position are eligible; temporary, casual or on-call employees are not eligible;
  • have the support of their employer and have at least a guaranteed position at the end of their studies either with the current employer or with another subsidiary;
  • be in a part-time or full-time training program;
  • remain a Desjardins employee for at least one year after the end of their studies.

Temporary employees who have already been classified as permanent employees can apply for the bursary for a relevant training program, after which they must remain Desjardins employees.

Renewal

Bursaries are renewable once per level but by submitting a new application.

Supporting documents

Applicants must provide:

  • their academic file
  • the most recent transcripts from the high-school, college or university level
  • a sealed letter from their employer containing an evaluation of the employee's performance, chances of success and the pertinence of the program to the employee's job (Employers may also send this letter directly to the Fondation.)
  • an evaluation form filled out by a person outside the organization (i.e., a professor or former employer, an acquaintance from the student or business community, or a person met as part of a social undertaking.)

Persons with permanent resident status must:

  • enclose a photocopy of their permanent resident card;
  • if they have not yet studied in Canada, provide documents showing equivalent studies in their country of origin;

How to apply

Registration period: December 15 to April 1 each year. Bursary applications postmarked after this time will not be accepted. No acknowledgement will be sent, but candidates will receive a reply before July 1.
