Concrete actions

We promote diversity and equity not only in our mission but on a daily basis. We are particularly proud of the following initiatives toward cultural communities, women and young people 18 to 30.

Cultural communities
  • Annual partnership with the Ministère de l'Immigration et des Communautés culturelles
Desjardins Group partnered with the Ministère de l'Immigration et des Communautés culturelles (MICC) for the 6th annual Semaine québécoise des rencontres interculturelles (Québec Intercultural Week). The event, whose theme was "Ici, on s'interculturalise", highlighted the importance of bringing together Quebeckers of all origins.
  • Cultural community Discovery Days
For the past 2 years, Desjardins has been organizing Discovery Days, in which people from a variety of cultural communities are invited to meet with Desjardins representatives to learn the history of Desjardins Group and find out about career possibilities. A total of 35 people attended these events in 2008.
  • Newcomers to Canada are served in their own language
Newcomers can be served in 21 languages, facilitating their relationship with their financial institution.
  • Financial management guide for newcomers to Canada
Desjardins makes available to newcomers a financial management guide (PDF, 277 KB) with useful information about savings, investments, financing and insurance.
  • Desjardins Immigrant Investor Program
The Desjardins Immigrant Investor Program offers business people and their families the opportunity to immigrate to Canada and, at the same time, contribute to the country's economic development. Guaranteed by the government, the program allows immigrants to get an unconditional Canadian visa, permanent resident status and, ultimately, Canadian citizenship.
Women
  • Desjardins female employees named to outside Boards of Directors

Sylvie Paquette, President and CEO of DGIG, has been named to the National Leadership Steering Committee.

Marie-Claude Boisvert, Vice-President, Development Capital and Business Ownership Transfers, was named to the following Board of Directors:

    • Université du Québec à Montréal
    • TV5
Young people 18 to 30
  • Young Intern Officer Program
Desjardins invites young people 18 to 30 to be part of the Young Intern Officer program and complete a practical one-year internship on a caisse Board of Directors. Working with elected officers, young interns learn the various aspects of the role of caisse officer and build a valuable network of professional contacts to help them further their career.
  • Hiring students
Desjardins Group hires students from many cultures in its many client contact centres. Our centres offer a flexible environment supportive of student schedules. Our goal: to offer students full-time work at the end of their studies.
  • Participation in job fair and seminars
Desjardins Group participated in 30 job fairs, seminars and youth-oriented events in 2008.
