Now that you're here and settled in, you'll need to find a job if you don't already have one. Where do you start? Desjardins has a few tips for you on the subject.

What you need to know about working in Canada

  • To work, you need a Social Insurance Number (SIN). To apply for a social insurance number, go to a Service Canada office.
  • You can work part-time, full-time, of start your own business. Desjardins also offers a full range of financial products and services to business owners
  • Before you start your job search, get together al the documents you need: letters of recommendation, degrees and diplomas, resume, etc.
  • You can find job offers online (e.g. Job Bank, Emploi Québec), in local newspapers and in recruiting agencies.

Desjardins and the Association communautaire d'emprunt de Montréal (ACEM) will support you through a loan program designed exclusively for you.

Desjardins Group and ACEM worked in partnership to implement a pilot project that assists workers trained abroad in obtaining the certifications and training required to gain access to regulated professions and trades in Quebec.

Spearheaded by ACEM, the pilot loan project for foreign credential recognition (FCR) is for workers trained abroad who reside on the island of Montreal, in Laval and on Montreal's south shore.
